Azimuth SP-1 Landship

Azimuth released the prototype of their SP-1 Landship earlier this month and in this instance saying this watch is built like a tank is more than typically apt. Its design is heavily inspired by early world war I tanks that were often referred to as “Landships”. The design influences are clearly apparent in the “Turret” on the top of the watch, the shape of its sides and the watch’s crown which is intended to recall a gun turret.

Made of titanium, the SP-1 Landship indicates the hours on the small turret-like dome on top via a rotating disc within and the minutes by way of a red hand and linear minute gauge at the wide opening on its front face.

Azimuth like to draw inspiration from the past, another of their watches the Roboto was inspired by 1950’s Japanese robots.

40mm wide and 55mm tall it is equipped with a modified ETA automatic movement, is water resistant to 30 meters and will be sold for 6,800 Swiss francs. Its a limited production, only 100 units will be completed this year.

UTS 4000M Deep Dive Watch

The new UTS deep dive watch, the UTS 4000m professional has been released .

UTS watches are the brainchild of Nicolaus Spinner and are personally assembled and tested by him in his small workshop in Munchen, Germany.

It features a massive 17.5mm thick case and a 6mm crystal, which are needed to enable it to endure the kinds of pressures associated with 4000m depths. While you may not need a watch that can descend to such depths, one that is built to withstand these kind of depths is sure to be an extremely tough.

It doesnt require a helium valve due to its superior sealing and the crystal is not only glued in place but also held by a massive steel ring. The case is made from a single block of high grade stainless steel, the watch is 45mm in diameter and weighs 305g on a 22mm stainless bracelet and 205 on rubber.

Prices: 4,500 euros for the three-hand model and 5,000 euros for the GMT.

The latest moon-phase watch by Schaumburg features up to the minute accuracy by way of a moon adjustment button that allows you to minutely adjust the shadow of the earth above the moon. Representing the moon at a size of 13.4mm it is considered to be the worlds largest in an automatic moon-phase chronometer.

The Grand Perpetual Moon Meteorite watch (pictured below) uses fragments from the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter so that “every watch is a unique piece with its own galactic history”.

Unlike many moon-phase watches the moon itself doesn’t move but a simulated earth’s shadow passes across it by way of a semi-transparent disc. The shadow approaches from either the left or right depending on whether it is the northern or southern hemisphere.

Schaumburg Grand Perpetual Meteor

Using patented luminescent materials it realistically depicts the moon cycles of the northern and southern hemispheres with a divergence of only one day in every 122.5 years. To represent the moon’s cycle so accurately required a complex movement and Schaumburg joined forces with renowned Astronomical Watch maker Martin Braun to create the watch’s movement.

B.R.M Bomber

B.R.M `s watches usually draw inspiration from the world of motorsport but this time they have looked to aviation and legendary WWII fighter aircraft as their source, although a different world, speed, power and engineering are a dominant thread.

The chronograph models are a tribute to the spirit and technical prowess of fighter aircraft such as The Spitfire, The P-51 Mustang North American and The Mitsubishi Zero.

The designs feature B.R.M`s signature use of distinct colours as well as heavy use of metal design elements. Crafted like fuselage they feature rivets, propeller shaped hands and exhaust pipe references.

Itay Noy Dialog Num

Israeli watch brand Itay Noy presents its new watch DiaLOG, which, according to the company offers a variety of ways to display time.

The design of the watch recalls last year’s X-Ray model but with a different dial design and a larger winding crown for better management of the manual winding ETA Unitas 6498-1 .

The dial design features five layers and uses individual discs rather than hands for indicating the hours, minutes, and seconds. According to Itay Noy the five layers of `dial hands` allow a “sychronous time reading in various ways” .

The case is 41.6mm wide made from steel has a sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 50m.

Available in four limited edition versions of 99 pieces each and priced at $3640.

Romain Jerome Titanic Chrono

On 2 April 1912, welcomed by crowds, the Titanic entered for the first time the waves of the Atlantic, ready to conquer the oceans. Already a legend it was a true symbol of the industrial era.

This giant of the sea inspired Romain Jerome`s Titanic DNA collection, and to mark its 100th anniversary they have released two new models, the Steampunk Chrono 100th Anniversary (pictured above) and the Steampunk Auto 100th Anniversary (below).

Using metals separated by 100 years the models incorporate rusted metal from the 3840 meters deep wreck along with contemporary metal parts. Romain Jerome has invented a unique process that prevents the metal from rusting any further, producing `stabilized steel`, a first in the watchmaking industry.

Housed in a substantial 50mm casing  they feature mobile propellers decorating the dial which are intended to bring to mind those of the legendary ship.

A single medallion commemorating the launch date of the titan of the seas adorns the back of the case of these timepieces which are limited to 100 pieces each. No word on price as of now.

Using a grid of 110 letters and LED technology the time is displayed when the button is pressed and indicated in 5 minute intervals, exact time is then calculated by adding the number of dots that light up at the bottom of the watch. For example the time on the watch in the photo above would be 12.33.

Not a watch you could just glance at and read the time, it is actually an adaptation of their well known wall clock which uses the same style display and won the red dot award for product design.

Its made by German studio Biegert & Funk, measures 35 × 35 × 7 mm and comes in plain stainless or black.
It will be available in both English and German sometime in the autumn, retailing for about $700.

The Klepcys is a collaboration between Cyrus and renowned watchmaker Jean-François Mojon, who was also responsible for the Harry Winston Opus X.

A particularly unique aspect of the 3D Mars globe is that it rotates at the same speed as the real thing, completing one revolution every 24 hours, 37 minutes and 22 seconds.

An interesting detail at the left of the dial, at about 7 O’clock is an image of the famous “Martian face”. Based on the photo taken of the mountain in Cydonia-the northern hemisphere of Mars which resembles a human face and was taken by the “Viking 1″ in 1976.

Powered by an automatic movement the hours are indicated by the large retrograde hand on the left which is surmounted by two rotating cubes that indicate the day / night cycle. Two discs at the centre display the minutes and seconds. Another retrograde (combined with a rotating cube indicating the tens) indicates the date on the right.

Limited to 66 pieces, or as Cyrus puts it “66 earthlings will be able to enjoy this unique experience on their wrist.”

Omega has just launched the Spacemaster Z-33 watch, its powered by a new multifunction thermo-compensated quartz movement – calibre 5666.

Like their X-33 speedmaster model it combines analog and digital displays. The digital display provides self-programmable professional pilot functions as well as date, UTC and two time zones, also a chronograph function and a countdown timer.

The brushed, polished and sandblasted case is built from grade 5 titanium and features a “double wall” construction which acts as a resonance chamber to amplify the alarm sound.

Transreflective LCD Technology guarantees readability under any lighting conditions. This technology not only cleverly adjusts the luminosity of the digital display so it can easily be read during night flights, direct sunlight or when wearing polarized glasses but it also saves battery power.

Water resistant to 30m it comes on either a rubber or leather strap.

Rolex Deepsea Challenge

On January 23rd 1960 the “deep boat” Trieste made an historic descent to 10,916 meters. On that occasion it was accompanied by a Rolex watch.

James Cameron, National Geographic explorer-in-residence on-board the Deepsea Challenger is preparing to go even deeper this time also accompanied by another Rolex watch, the newly released Rolex Deepsea Challenge watch.
