Jacob & Co. Epic SF24 uses “split flap” module for second time zone.

Jacob and Co SF24 watch

The latest piece from Jacob & Co  will appeal to those with a novel taste in wristwatches and who happen to do a lot of traveling. The Jacob & Co. Epic SF24 is the only world-time watch of its kind using a “split flap” display.

You’ve seen them in airports and train stations all over the world, from Singapore’s Changi Airport to the Atlantic City Rail Terminal to Zurich. They’re the giant boards in front of which travelers gather to get information on arrivals and departures, and the most magical of them to watch are the type known as “split flap” displays, in which letters and numbers are shown on hinged flaps that rotate to change the character displayed. They have the same mesmerizing fascination as a deck of cards being riffled-shuffled in the hands of a deft casino blackjack dealer, and that same fascination is now part of an amazing watch –the new Epic “SF 24” timepiece from Jacob & Co..

It features an unusual 45mm horse-shoe shape case with the large unusual “split flap” module at the top showing the second time zone with the name of city at the left, a pusher to the left letting you cycle through the cities. The second time zone indicator shows the hours only and the minutes are read via the hand on traditional dial below.

The Caliber 2220 automatic winding movement is 100% mechanical and jointly developed with Concepto and Swiss Studio7h38 created the “split flap” module. It has a 40 Hour reserve and the SF 24 comes in 18k rose or white gold, as well as a sportier model in a titanium case. No word on price but dont expect it to be “reasonably priced”.
