Announced in December and slated for release in January, the latest timepiece from young watchmaker Frederic Jouvenot features an ingenious and innovative way of displaying time.

Jouvenot became inspired to create a series of timepieces based on myths and solar deities after a trip to Greece. This the first one, named Helios after the Greek word for Sun.

The solar theme is symbolized with radiating cylinders representing sun beams. Its one of those rare designs that manages to combine the practical and aesthetic parts perfectly.

The WeWood watch brand makes their watches from wood and are totally absent of artificial and toxic materials. They have an admirable environmental philosophy in that they plant one tree for every watch purchased.

Different wood is used to create different coloured watches. The Brown version watch pictured uses wood from the Red Wing Celtis, they also come in Beige (Maple) and Black (Ebony). Being entirely made of wood – including strap makes them feather light at just 42 grams (1.2 ounces).
